Nightjar · a listening room
Records played front to back on a properly set-up deck, into honest speakers, from comfortable seats. Nothing on shuffle, nothing skipped, nothing louder than the room needs.
Sound begins only when you press play. The three studies are synthesised live in your browser — no recordings are streamed or stored.
01 · The studies
Each study is a few minutes long and is generated note-by-note in your browser the first time you play it — synthesis, not sampling. You can keep the sound off: the lamp, the woofers and the meters still follow the signal, and each study is described below.
02 · The room
The room is arranged around one seat in the middle — everything is aimed at it. Scroll down to visit each part of it; the floor plan keeps track of where you are. The wood is tobacco-coloured oiled walnut, the upholstery is oxblood leather, and the light never gets brighter than a late evening.
03 · The programme
A fictional programme. Nightjar is an invented venue and these sessions are part of its fiction — nothing here is a real event, nothing is bookable, and there are no tickets. Save anything that interests you to a shortlist; it stays in this browser only.
04 · Your shortlist
Sessions you save are listed here, stored locally in your browser. This is a reading list for a fictional room — nothing to buy, nothing to book.
