Alder Practice · Courtyard House · 2025
A small house
built around daylight.
A quiet home gathered around a planted courtyard.
01 · Concept
Rooms gathered around a garden
Four thin wings — one room deep — wrap a 4.20 × 4.20 m planted courtyard at the centre of the plan. Every room touches the garden on one side and takes distance light from the other. The roof floats on a charcoal fascia; the walls are limewash over 300 mm masonry.
02 · Presentation
One model, three drawings
The whole experience is a single authored 3D model. Scrolling lifts the roof and cuts a live section; the plan, diagrams, dimensions and the downloadable sheet are all derived from the same geometry.

Exterior
Four wings around an open room
Limewash walls, a floating roof, one tree. Keep scrolling — the roof lifts and the section cuts.

The plan stays live behind this list. Entering a room keeps your current time, section and material — returning restores the view exactly.
04 · Daylight
The sun crosses the garden
Illustrative study at 43.7° N on the summer solstice, 08:00–17:00 solar time. The compass, shadows and sun position stay consistent with the plan.

05 · Materials
Two treatments, one architecture
The building never changes — only its surface. Both schemes keep the oak floors, charcoal joinery lines and the planted courtyard.
06 · Specification
Compact project specification
Every number below is derived from the interactive model — the same geometry that produced the plan and section drawings.

07 · Project sheet
Take the drawing set with you
The sheet is composed live from the model: your current view, section height, time of day and material scheme are captured into a single A4 PNG, together with the dimensioned plan and section.
